mjengoPay Technologies builds software for the money side of Kenyan construction sites — from Nairobi, for the way sites here actually work.

Why we exist

Construction is one of Kenya's largest employers, and most of its workforce is paid in cash, off a notebook, on a Friday. That system fails everyone: workers lose disputed days, contractors lose money to ghost workers and untracked materials, and directors sign off budgets nobody can audit. The tools that digitised office payroll never reached the site, because the site is a different problem — daily hires, daily rates, piecework, dust, and wages that arrive on a phone, not into a bank ledger.

mjengoPay is that missing tool: attendance verified at the gate, wages computed from it, payouts in bulk to every worker's phone, materials paid against deliveries, and an audit trail under all of it. “Mjengo” is Swahili for a construction site; the name is the mission.

What we believe

• Workers need nothing but a phone. Any phone. Adoption dies the moment a kibarua needs an app store.
• Verification beats reconciliation. Catch the ghost worker at the gate, not in next month's books.
• No one moves money alone. Approvals on every payment, permanent records under everything.
• Pay per use. A workforce that changes daily should not be billed per seat per month.
